About Us
CBCTC was founded in 1980 by a small group of local farmers. Permission was
given for the shoot on an area of ground, that was originally occupied by
chicken sheds, and part of the field next to Codicote Bottom Farm by the tennant farmer,
Frank Sapsed. Since then it has flourished into a well respected local club
dedicated to promoting Clay Shooting and supporting local events.
In 1994, with a grant from the Hertfordshire Woodland Project, the ground was
landscaped with appropriate trees and shrubs to reestablish the hedgerows,
provide much needed cover for the crops and for protection from the wind. It
also gave us more flexibility in designing shoot layouts.
In May 1997 the current club house was built and donated by a local builder
and then member of the club. It still serves us well today. The club originally
relied upon manual traps and trappers, but we have now progressed to mostly
electronic traps, our first being the DTL trap. We also have a 40 foot tower
that can provide some interesting targets. Being a non-profit making club, all
the work to run the shoot is provided by a dedicated team of hard working
volunteers to whom we are eternally grateful.
The shoot has only ever taken place on alternating Sundays throughout the year.
We are also an affiliated club of the CPSA, but do not
provide registered shoots. We have the capacity to also provide a limited number
of corporate or event shoots. Our membership is limited to a maximum of 100
members. We have 3 CPSA trained Safety Officers.
